A diverse set of releases, with impressive wines from Singlefile, Plantagenet and Stefano Lubiana.

Reviewed

Singlefile – Run Free – Pinot Grigio – 2026. Intensely aromatic, so much so that I thought it was riesling to start. But the textural notes and a slightly mealy character place this firmly in the Gris/Grigio spectrum. This is a delightful wine that is full of energy, yet with the pristine fruit taking centre stage. The most surprising aspect of this wine is that it is actually quite serious, with length, persistence and intensity that defy expectations. 12.9% alc | 93pts | $29

Singlefile – Clement V – Mataro/Grenache/Shiraz – 2025. Of all the current releases from Singlefile, this is the wine that struck me as being in a sweet spot already. The fresh, supple berry and plum fruit is supported by quality oak, minerality, fine-structured tannins and supple acidity. As delicious as it is now, this will build depth with mid-term ageing, gaining depth and complexity along the way. The fruit comes from the Donnelly River Vineyard. Each portion was vinified separately, with the final blending occurring prior to bottling. Matured in 25% new barriques. 14.1% alc | 94-95pts.

Plantagenet – Wyjup Collection – Chardonnay – 2024. This is a very interesting and enjoyable wine. The fruit is ripe, but there is life and energy running the length of the palate. The fruit shows as both stone fruit and tropical fruit characters, and everything is in balance. The oak plays an important role but does not impact negatively on the palate. Rather, it allows the fruit to remain the focus. Importantly, the acidity is a highlight. It has excellent length and persistence, and it gets an extra point for being a lovely drink. 14.0% alc | 95pts

Stefano Lubiana – Sasso – Pinot Noir – 2023. With vibrant fruit and innate power, depth and structure, this is a very impressive wine. It is very finely structured, with the filigreed tannins and fine acidity providing important structural and textural additions. My sense is that this needs a few years, or an hour in the decanter, to really start to express itself, but it is a very good wine regardless. Cherry fruit is the focus, supported by supple minerality and a ferrous, almost blood-like tinge on the finish. It was even better on the second day. 13.0% alc | 95+pts | $150.00

Singlefile – Single Vineyard – Porongurup – Pinot Noir – 2025. Lovely colour, lovely nose, lovely palate, lovely wine! OK, so this is not the densest, most powerful or structured wine, but it makes up for this by being deeply satisfying and moreish. Pretty, fragrant berry and cherry fruit is the star, supported by supple tannins and oak. Refreshing acidity is a key feature on the long finish. It will develop more depth and complexity with 5+ years in the cellar. Matured in 30% new Burgundian oak and 70% one-year-old oak. 13.8% alc | 95pts | $75
